Chapter 17

1 And Elijah452 the Tishbite,8664 who was of the inhabitants8453 of Gilead,1568 said559 to Ahab,256 As the LORD3068 God430 of Israel3478 lives,2416 before6440 whom834 I stand,5975 there shall not be dew2919 nor rain4306 these428 years,8141 but according6310 to my word.1697

2 And the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to him, saying,559

3 Get3212 you hence,2088 and turn6437 you eastward,6924 and hide5641 yourself by the brook5158 Cherith,3747 that is before5921 6440 Jordan.3383

4 And it shall be, that you shall drink8354 of the brook;5158 and I have commanded6680 the ravens6158 to feed3557 you there.8033

5 So he went3212 and did6213 according to the word1697 of the LORD:3068 for he went3212 and dwelled3427 by the brook5158 Cherith,3747 that is before5921 6440 Jordan.3383

6 And the ravens6158 brought935 him bread3899 and flesh1320 in the morning,1242 and bread3899 and flesh1320 in the evening;6153 and he drank of the brook.5158

7 And it came1961 to pass after7093 a while,3117 that the brook5158 dried3001 up, because3588 there had1961 been1961 no3808 rain1653 in the land.776

8 And the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to him, saying,559

9 Arise,6965 get3212 you to Zarephath,6886 which834 belongs to Zidon,6721 and dwell3427 there:8033 behold,2009 I have commanded6680 a widow490 woman802 there8033 to sustain3557 you.

10 So he arose6965 and went3212 to Zarephath.6886 And when he came935 to the gate6607 of the city,5892 behold,2009 the widow490 woman802 was there8033 gathering7197 of sticks:6086 and he called7121 to her, and said,559 Fetch3947 me, I pray4994 you, a little4592 water4325 in a vessel,3627 that I may drink.8354

11 And as she was going3212 to fetch3947 it, he called7121 to her, and said,559 Bring3947 me, I pray4994 you, a morsel6595 of bread3899 in your hand.3027

12 And she said,559 As the LORD3068 your God430 lives,2416 I have3426 not a cake,4580 but an handful4393 3709 of meal7058 in a barrel,3537 and a little4592 oil8081 in a cruse:6835 and, behold,2005 I am gathering7197 two8147 sticks,6086 that I may go935 in and dress6213 it for me and my son,1121 that we may eat398 it, and die.4191

13 And Elijah452 said559 to her, Fear3372 not; go935 and do6213 as you have said:559 but make6213 me thereof8033 a little6996 cake5692 first,7223 and bring3318 it to me, and after314 make6213 for you and for your son.1121

14 For thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel,3478 The barrel3537 of meal7058 shall not waste,3615 neither3808 shall the cruse6835 of oil8081 fail,2637 until5704 the day3117 that the LORD3068 sends5414 rain1653 on the earth.127

15 And she went3212 and did6213 according to the saying1697 of Elijah:452 and she, and he, and her house,1004 did eat398 many days.3117

16 And the barrel3537 of meal7058 wasted3615 not, neither3808 did the cruse6835 of oil8081 fail,2638 according to the word1697 of the LORD,3068 which834 he spoke1696 by Elijah.452

17 And it came1961 to pass after310 these428 things,1697 that the son1121 of the woman,802 the mistress1172 of the house,1004 fell sick;2470 and his sickness2483 was so3966 sore,2389 that there was no3808 breath5397 left3498 in him.

18 And she said559 to Elijah,452 What4100 have I to do with you, O you man376 of God?430 are you come935 to me to call2142 my sin5771 to remembrance,2142 and to slay4191 my son?1121

19 And he said559 to her, Give5414 me your son.1121 And he took3947 him out of her bosom,2436 and carried5927 him up into413 a loft,5944 where834 8033 he stayed,3427 and laid7901 him on his own bed.4296

20 And he cried7121 to the LORD,3068 and said,559 O LORD3068 my God,430 have you also brought evil7489 on the widow490 with whom834 I sojourn,1481 by slaying4191 her son?1121

21 And he stretched4058 himself on the child3206 three7969 times,6471 and cried7121 to the LORD,3068 and said,559 O LORD3068 my God,430 I pray4994 you, let this2088 child's3206 soul5315 come7725 into5921 him again.7725

22 And the LORD3068 heard8085 the voice6963 of Elijah;452 and the soul5315 of the child3206 came7725 into5921 him again,7725 and he revived.2421

23 And Elijah452 took3947 the child,3206 and brought3381 him down3381 out of the chamber5944 into the house,1004 and delivered5414 him to his mother:517 and Elijah452 said,559 See,7200 your son1121 lives.2416

24 And the woman802 said559 to Elijah,452 Now6258 by this2088 I know3045 that you are a man376 of God,430 and that the word1697 of the LORD3068 in your mouth6310 is truth.571

Chapter 17

1 AND Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years but according to my word.

2 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

3 Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook of Cherith that is before the Jordan.

4 And you shall drink from the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.

5 So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; for he went and dwelt by the brook of Cherith that is before the Jordan.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

7 But after a while the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

8 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

9 Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her and said, Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.

12 And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing but a handful of flour in a pot and a little oil in a cruse; and, behold, I am gathering a few sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.

13 And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go and do as you have said; but first make a little cake and bring it to me, and afterward make for yourself and your son.

14 For thus says the LORD God of Israel, The pot of flour shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not diminish, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she and he and her household did eat many days.

16 And the pot of flour was not spent, neither did the cruse of oil diminish, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Elijah.

17 And it came to pass after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore that there was no breath left in him.

18 And she said to Elijah, What have I done to you, O prophet of God? Are you come to me to call my trespasses to remembrance and to slay my son?

19 And Elijah said to her. Give me your son. And he took him from her bosom, and carried him up into the upper chamber where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20 And he cried to the LORD and said, O LORD God, why hast thou also brought misfortune upon this widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21 Then he stretched himself upon the boy three times and cried to the LORD and said, O LORD my God, let this boy's soul return to him again.

22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the boy returned into him again, and he revived.

23 And Elijah took the boy and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said to her, See, your son lives.

24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that you are a prophet of God and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth.

7 But after a while the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

8 And the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to him, saying,559

8 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

9 Arise,6965 get3212 you to Zarephath,6886 which834 belongs to Zidon,6721 and dwell3427 there:8033 behold,2009 I have commanded6680 a widow490 woman802 there8033 to sustain3557 you.

9 Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going3212 to fetch3947 it, he called7121 to her, and said,559 Bring3947 me, I pray4994 you, a morsel6595 of bread3899 in your hand.3027

12 And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing but a handful of flour in a pot and a little oil in a cruse; and, behold, I am gathering a few sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.

13 And Elijah452 said559 to her, Fear3372 not; go935 and do6213 as you have said:559 but make6213 me thereof8033 a little6996 cake5692 first,7223 and bring3318 it to me, and after314 make6213 for you and for your son.1121

13 And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go and do as you have said; but first make a little cake and bring it to me, and afterward make for yourself and your son.

14 For thus says the LORD God of Israel, The pot of flour shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not diminish, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.

15 And she went3212 and did6213 according to the saying1697 of Elijah:452 and she, and he, and her house,1004 did eat398 many days.3117

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she and he and her household did eat many days.

16 And the barrel3537 of meal7058 wasted3615 not, neither3808 did the cruse6835 of oil8081 fail,2638 according to the word1697 of the LORD,3068 which834 he spoke1696 by Elijah.452

16 And the pot of flour was not spent, neither did the cruse of oil diminish, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Elijah.

17 And it came1961 to pass after310 these428 things,1697 that the son1121 of the woman,802 the mistress1172 of the house,1004 fell sick;2470 and his sickness2483 was so3966 sore,2389 that there was no3808 breath5397 left3498 in him.

17 And it came to pass after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore that there was no breath left in him.

20 And he cried to the LORD and said, O LORD God, why hast thou also brought misfortune upon this widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21 And he stretched4058 himself on the child3206 three7969 times,6471 and cried7121 to the LORD,3068 and said,559 O LORD3068 my God,430 I pray4994 you, let this2088 child's3206 soul5315 come7725 into5921 him again.7725

21 Then he stretched himself upon the boy three times and cried to the LORD and said, O LORD my God, let this boy's soul return to him again.

22 And the LORD3068 heard8085 the voice6963 of Elijah;452 and the soul5315 of the child3206 came7725 into5921 him again,7725 and he revived.2421

22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the boy returned into him again, and he revived.

23 And Elijah452 took3947 the child,3206 and brought3381 him down3381 out of the chamber5944 into the house,1004 and delivered5414 him to his mother:517 and Elijah452 said,559 See,7200 your son1121 lives.2416

23 And Elijah took the boy and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said to her, See, your son lives.

24 And the woman802 said559 to Elijah,452 Now6258 by this2088 I know3045 that you are a man376 of God,430 and that the word1697 of the LORD3068 in your mouth6310 is truth.571
